The term is derived from the proverb &lt;em&gt;Birds of a Feather flock together&lt;/em&gt; or &lt;em&gt;Byrdes of on kynde and color flok and flye allwayes together.&lt;/em&gt; in its old English form.&lt;/p&gt;
