Drupal Community Looks Forward To DrupalCon Denver and DrupalCon Munich

London – 2 September, 2011DrupalCon London, an international event that brings together the community that utilizes, develops, designs and supports the Drupal platform, concluded as the largest and most profitable European Drupal event to date. More than 1,750 members of the Drupal community hailing from 55 countries filled South London’s Fairfield Halls with jam-packed sessions, training, code sprints and collaboration. The momentum continues in anticipation of DrupalCon Denver in March 2012 and DrupalCon Munich in August 2012.

Drupal founder Dries Buytaert led the conference with a highly-anticipated keynote presentation, acknowledging Drupal’s growing international adoption, particularly among large media companies and financial institutions. Buytaert also revealed the State of Drupal survey results, which garnered 3,000 responses, reviewing where Drupal has been, where it is today and opportunities ahead, including Drupal 8.

DrupalCon London also served as a platform for companies launching new initiatives and products, including Acquia’s unveiling of the “Acquia Apps Market” for customers of its Acquia Network service; Commerce Guys’ release of Drupal Commerce 1.0; SubHub and Phase 2 Technology joining forces to develop a new Drupal Open App Standard; Volacci’s announcement of SEO Grader, an internet marketing review optimized for Drupal; and Drupal Watchdog’s release of its second issue with a focus on Mobile Drupal.

In addition, the event showcased the first round recipients of the Drupal Community Cultivation Grants. Seven projects in five countries were awarded nearly $10,000 in grants to grow the Drupal community though camps, code sprints and open source curriculum. Announced in June 2011, the Drupal Community Cultivation Grants were established to transform, support and educate Drupal communities around the world. “DrupalCon London’s tremendous success is a true indicator of Drupal’s explosive adoption on a global scale,” said Jacob Redding, executive director, Drupal Association. “The Drupal community is more alive than ever, evidenced by five full days of powerful presentations, best practices shared, spirited collaboration and a fun environment that included a 300-person pub crawl and a marriage proposal by one of the presenters. As we gear up for DrupalCon Denver in March and DrupalCon Munich in August, we look forward to generating further growth and excitement throughout the Drupal community.”

DrupalCon London raised more than £38K GBP, which will be invested back into the Drupal community.
