Training Announced!

May 10

DrupalCon London is an amazing opportunity for everyone to develop their Drupal skills. Whether you are a newcomer or a seasoned site builder, there are training courses to suit all levels. What better way to start your week at DrupalCon than with an intensive session on some excellent topics. These sessions have limited seats, so register today.

As most of the leading Drupal companies come together for DrupalCon we are able to offer training from the very best in the community all in one place - and at a much reduced price than would usually be available.

Price isn't the only factor - this is a unique opportunity to be trained by the companies behind the modules you are using every day. Acquia, Commerce Guys, Lullabot, Phase 2 and Chapter Three are some of the companies offering training. Many of these do not usually offer mainstream training outside of the USA.

The Drupal marketplace in the UK and Europe is currently in a negative unemployment situation - there are more opportunities available than there are skilled developers to fill them. Make the most of the opportunity to acquire the specialist knowledge that will set you apart from the rest.

Training takes place all day on Monday 22nd August - the day before DrupalCon London gets into full swing. You can book a place on any of the full day courses right now with prices starting at £150. This subsidised rate could save you at least 50% compared to an average professional Drupal training day. Take a look at the courses on offer - remember places are limited so book now!

How we selected these courses

To get the best crop of training for DrupalCon London, we promoted the training announcement as widely as we could for DrupalCon. We received 47 submissions, which we were quite pleased about! However, this did make selection more difficult.

The Review Process

For those that were not chosen, please trust us when we say it was hard...

Some were not chosen because of suitability to the audience or because of our requirement to provide a mix of courses, or because of the perceived marketability. Hopefully some might run as sessions, or they might show up as courses at speciality events, such as Design 4 Drupal, Drupal Gov Days or CXO (Drupal Executives) types of events.

We estimated each review took about 20 mins and 6 people participated in the review process. Special thanks goes to Diana Dupuis of Four Kitchens, she spent considerable time preparing a rating system, a process and creating a spreadsheet which we are refining and putting in place for future DrupalCons. Diana will blog about this in more detail when she returns from a much needed holiday. And also special thanks to Erik Stielstra of Wizzlern used NINJA spreadsheet skills to make this collaboration document into something truly magical to quickly see review status and ratings. As well, thanks to other members on the training team, Stefaan Ponnet of Fusebox.be, Marek Sotak of Atomic Ant, and David Kitchen of University of London.

The first phase of the process was anonymous and gave us a good opportunity to evaluate the submissions on their merit, content, suitability and detail. We have made every effort to ensure the highest participation and variety. In the second phase, we evaluated the prior experience of the training providers, and whittled down to 15 total recommendations. We were pleased with our choices - there were some unexpected proposals which we feel strongly confident about.

Jacob had the very tough task of narrowing further, and choosing 12 sessions to offer to participants at DrupalCon. Finally, through purchasing tickets, the attendees will choose what is going to run, as has been done in all the other conferences previously.

We feel there is something for everyone in this proposal, and will help new people evaluate Drupal; will help others advance their growing Drupal abilities; and help others hone their expertise and create new opportunities for themselves and Drupal.
