Community marketing of Drupal using Drupal Commons ?

We could use Drupal Commons (out of box demo of community website) to create :
- specialized user group targeted by industry : gouvernement / eductation, média industry etc...
-Make a directory of shops, freelancer with the baking of their clients do some sort of social market place.

I can show up some mockup and see if there is any interest to works on that as a community effort.
