Advanced Image Module

I would like to initiate this session to discuss the possibility of an advanced image module. Something for larger publications that use about 10 images or so in every article/node and need to setup gallery, choose size formats, positioning, add meta data etc. all in one simple interface without having to go through many clicks. And in what ways could some of the modules be extended to achieve this.
